Community Outreach/ Palliative & Home-based care

Care of the sick and disabled, especially those with cancer and chronic illnesses at their home by a dedicated team.

Reaching out to the communities in the villages in and around Kotagiri has been an integral part of KMF’s vision and mission. Dr. Miriam George, a public health expert joined our team in March and has initiated visits to villages, especially those in remote locations to assess the needs related to health. We hope to train young women in the community to be health workers in their own villages and use the existing health infrastructure, both private and government based, to improve health in the Nilgiris, especially among those who are not reached by anyone.

Home-based care and Palliative care programme

Home based care has started and been extended free of charge to poor patients that come to the hospital and as well as for those that have been referred to us by various frontline workers. Ms. Kayal who underwent training in Home based care program run by Pisces Healthcare in Vellore is a key person in these home visits. Rehabilitation only hospital visits have also been started for some of these patients that required intensive therapy.
